Get to Know the Opening Acts for Shawn Mendes’ 2022 Wonder: The World Tour

April 10, 2022

Shawn Mendes just can’t seem to stop! The singer recently announced that he was expanding his 2022 Wonder: The World Tour to include 13 new dates in the North American leg adding venues in San Diego, El Paso and even his hometown, Toronto. If you’re wondering whether you should skip the opening acts, don’t. Here’s everything you need to know about who’s opening.

Dermot Kennedy

The first half of the North American leg will be opened by Irish singer-songwriter Dermot Kennedy who began by his career by busking at 17 years old (does this remind you of another famous European artist?). His number one song on Spotify is a song he featured on titled Paradise and trust us, it’s a bop that’s sure to get you up and dancing.

Kennedy’s a world traveler who has performed to sold-out shows in Australia, Europe and the United States. If you were at Lollapalooza last year, you might have even danced to his songs on as he closed out the last day. His first complete album titled Without Fear was released in 2019, the same year he performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Kennedy also won the Irish Song of the Year in 2021 for his song Better Days, a song that reminds listeners that ‘better days’ are coming. If you’re a fan of Hozier, Lewis Capaldi or Ed Sheeran, give Kennedy a try!

Tate McRae

For TikTok fans, the second leg of the North American tour is for you! Tate McRae gained popularity during the COVID-19 pandemic when she began posting her songs on TikTok. Her first single You Broke Me First was released over the summer in 2020 and now has almost 150M views with over 2M likes.

McRae first began posting dance videos on her YouTube in 2011 before starting a series titled Create with Tate. Here, she showcased her original songs from her bedroom. At only 17 years old, she was invited to perform at the 2020 MTV Europe Music Awards where she danced in a dimly-lit water-filled stage that captured the angsty feelings of her song. If you’re a fan of Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo or Troye Sivan, you’ll probably love Tate McRae.
